Within the framework of the Health/AI Program of the Department of Health, on June 27, 2023, AQuAS published on its contractor profile the announcement of a preliminary market consultation to explore solutions based on artificial intelligence aimed at improving access to information throughout the entire cycle of use of medicines . After analyzing the results of the consultation , it was concluded that the market was in a position to offer a solution capable of addressing the needs described and complementing it with additional functionalities despite the existence of some technological limits.

Now, this challenge has taken a step forward with the approval of the tender, which aims to develop a digital solution capable of offering information on medicines in plain language, understandable for patients and citizens, accessible from La Meva Salut, usable on multiple devices and with various output formats and real time. In addition, the digital solution must provide modules both for the introduction of new content, and for using the information generated by the digital solution for the analysis of the demand for medicines information and subsequent planning of health interventions in this area, taking into account the data.

Objectives to cover

The digital solution must achieve the followinng main objectiuves. For citizens and patients, offering a 24-hour, multi-channel digital tool that resolves doubts about medicines in clear and understandable language. The aim is to improve adherence to treatments, reduce unnecessary consultations and increase knowledge and confidence in the use of medicines and digital technologies.

For healthcare professionals, to complement the information provided to patients after the care event and appropriately channel inquiries that require professional intervention, thus improving the quality of care.

For the health system, improving health outcomes and contribute to the sustainability of the system through more rational use of medicines, reducing errors and monitoring consultations for data-based decision-making.

From a technological point of view, to guarantee integration with the digital ecosystem of the health system (such as La Meva Salut), ensure the scalability of the solution, data anonymization and alignment with the IT strategy of the Department of Health.

How to participate

About the challenge

The concept of health literacy is the ability to obtain, read, understand and use information to make appropriate health decisions and follow treatment instructions.

A low level of health knowledge among citizens is associated with limited understanding of verbal and written medical instructions, limited knowledge of health services, high risk of hospitalization and mortality, less likelihood of receiving preventive activities, and lower levels of healthy behaviors and adherence to treatments.

Therefore, we want to explore a digital solution that responds to the needs of resolving queries and helps increase knowledge of medicines, with constant availability and that complements the medicines information activities of all healthcare professionals.
