Introduction

One of the main challenges facing healthcare systems in the field of radiology is that the number of medical imaging scans that require clinical interpretation is growing much faster than the availability of professionals needed to interpret them.

Primary care professionals often encounter the suspicion of cardiorespiratory and thoracic diseases, for which they need to carry out a radiological test that confirms or refutes this suspicion. The prevalence of these diseases among the population, combined with a lack of professionals to cover the demand, highlights the need to find innovative solutions.

The main objectives of the challenge that aims to cover the potential future tender procedure are:

– Support the professionals of the Primary and Community Care Centres (APiC) of Catalonia in image interpretation to reduce the triage time and detection of anomalies in patients and refer relevant cases.

– Ease the workload of radiologists so that they can focus on patients with detected pathologies.

– Provide information to the Health System for analysis and decision-making based on the consultations or interventions carried out.
